At CreativeMornings #05 (March 2012) members from Cut Collective will talk you through the Splore - Portavilion Project 2012. Discussing the ins, outs and issues of their collaborative approach, how they managed the dialogue and communication around the project and the extensive logistics required, through to the final execution and documentation. They'll also have some nice pictures to show you too!

The Portavilion project was a collaboration between Cut Collective, Splore Festival, architect Jasper Middleton, Gasp, and public art curator Emma Underhill of UP Projects (London) that produced a temporary structure and recreational and performance space at Splore 2012.

Portavilion Splore continues the Portavilion series that began in London in 2008 as a mobile, expanding public art project, featuring different artists and collaborators with each new design. Cut Collective’s structure played with the notion of reuse, refuse (ref-use), return, recycling and up-cycling - using over 400 shipping pallets as the structural base and canvas for a whole array of artworks inspired by vintage signage and pop art icons.

Cut Collective are well-known for their art and public art projects and have also recently completed significant projects at The New Dowse, Auckland Art Gallery and the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. The artists (TrustMe, Component, Enforce1, Peepshow, and iThink) that make up the collective first came together in 2006, wanting to formalise their relationship after working together on various projects over previous years. Their strong drive to engage with the communities around them and with other creative practitioners, as well as to make their art accessible to the public - leads them to work on a lot of public art projects and activities, and inspired their participation in the Portavilion project.
