Cornerstone Roots

Cornerstone Roots with Kyah Brown and guests play in their home town of Raglan on Friday 11 May.

After a busy summer playing festivals such as Kaikoura Roots, Raggamuffin and One Drop, the band is looking forward to playing crowd favourites and new tunes off their fourth coming album.

Cornerstone Roots have passed the musical baton on to a new generation. Their latest single Journey, features 12-year-old Reiki Ruawai, the son of frontman Brian Ruawai and bass player Naomi-Jean Tuaopepe.

On Journey his chorus vocals add a youthful optimism reminiscent of Musical Youth’s Pass The Dutchie. The Raglan based band’s Journey is mixed by DJ MU from Fat Freddy’s Drop.

Cornerstone Roots classic cool approach has seen them stay true to their inspiration, the colossal world of Jamaican reggae, while bringing a Pacific consciousness to their music. They’ve released three critically acclaimed albums, and in 2010 played an epic 22-date European tour. The current line up is six strong and also features Andre Peri on drums, Reti Hedley on samples and guitar, and Nick Stevens on keys.
