Sunday 14 October concert by Douglas Mews.
'The Leaves be Green'.
Douglas Mews will play music from England's Golden Age of Music, the Elizabethan era, on the instrument that Elizabeth I herself played: the virginal. Elizabeth is reported to have played 'excellently well... when solitary, to shun melancholy'. Douglas will play pavanes, galliards, fantasias and folksongs from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book by composers such as Byrd, Farnaby, Gibbons and Bull.
