BonaNZa, New Zealand's premier trombone quartet, provides an eclectic and entertaining evening of music spanning centuries and genres: a mix of original works for trombone quartet with scintillating transcriptions and arrangements scarcely to be believed. BonaNZa is comprised of David Bremner (NZSO), Doug Cross (APO), Matthew Allison (VWO), and Tim Sutton (APO).

David Bremner was appointed Principal Trombone of the NZSO in 2002. Prior to this appointment he was Principal Trombone of the Auckland Philharmonia.

In June 2003 Christchurch-born Douglas Cross was appointed Principal Trombone of the Auckland Philharmonia. In addition to this position, Douglas is also currently Bass Trombone with Dalewool Auckland Brass and plays with the New Zealand Chamber Brass.

Matthew Allison is Principal Trombone of the Vector Wellington Orchestra, and an Artist Teacher at the New Zealand School of Music. He also works frequently with all of New Zealand’s major orchestras. In 2004 he was the winner of the Robert Marstellar Competition at the International Trombone Festival in Ithaca, New York. Matthew joined BonaNZa in 2009.

Tim Sutton is bass trombonist with the Auckland Philharmonia and takes an active role in Auckland’s musical culture, performing at Vitamin S nights at the Odeon Lounge, appearing with the Auckland Wind Orchestra and Manukau Symphony and recording for film and popular music.
