Auckland Music Theatre present “Chess: the Musical” with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, formerly of ABBA, and with lyrics by Tim Rice from the 12th to the 26th May.
With artistic team, Richard Neame (Director), Chris Moore (Musical Director) and Teesh Szabo (Choreographer), the show will provide an excellent nights entertainment for all.
Chess was written in the '80s and its music hit more than the stage with chart toppers such as Elaine Paige’s “I Know Him So Well” and the dance hit “One Night in Bangkok”.
The story involves a romantic triangle between two top players, an American and a Russian, in a world chess championship, and a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other; all in the context of a Cold War struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union, during which both countries wanted to win international chess tournaments for propaganda purposes.
