Come along for the final event in our Matariki Festival programme – the launch of Leon Wharekura’s new album, ChameLeon.
Leon Wharekura’s career as a singer and entertainer began in the late '80s, under the guidance of such legends as Billy T James and Dalvanius Prime.
ChameLeon is his second album – a mix of pop, R’n’B, and reggae, laced with te reo Māori. The lyrics and melodies suggest messages of hope, identity, celebration, caution, and love.
The album features a Pacific-infused version of ‘Unchained Melody’, with cameo appearances from the incomparable Annie Crummer and ukulele player extraordinaire, Jarome Pare. The result is pure kumara and coconut gold.
ChameLeon is produced by Paul Voight of Sound Pictures and mastered by Chris Winchcombe of York Street Studios.
