In this Expert Talk acclaimed film-maker and acknowledged shark expert Mike Bhana is visiting the Auckland Museum to share inspirational stories from his life journey and professional career, and to give invaluable insights into his process for producing large scale, award-winning films. Mike is currently working on a film about Great Whites around Stewart Island. He is shooting in full 3D and will allow the audience an exclusive sneak preview of his amazing footage – Great Whites drifting through the Museum in 3D!

Mike has produced 18 films exclusively on sharks – more than any other producer. His shark images have been seen in more than 100 films worldwide and he is one of the curators of Planet Shark – an international exhibition on sharks currently installed at the Museum of Nature & Science Dallas, Texas in the USA.

Camera Expert Sessions are part of the Camera Season of Photography at Auckland Museum. Camera Expert Sessions are held in The Camera Lounge, a specially created space within the exhibition. Expert sessions are suitable for people 7 years and older.

The Camera Season of Photography opened at Auckland Museum on June 22 2012. This exhibition features the Wildlife Photographer of the Year alongside NZ-Life: New Zealand Geographic Award-winning Photography 2009-11.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competition and is on show at Auckland Museum from 22 June to 26 August 2012. London’s Natural History Museum and BBC Wildlife magazine has curated this exhibition of stunning images selected from more than 40,000 entries across 95 countries. This incredible collection of 108 photographs encapsulates both the beauty of the world we live in and the fragility of nature.

NZ–Life brings together the best of the New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year finalists from the past three years of this national competition. Spanning wildlife, landscape and culture, these photos transport the viewer around the country, providing a new vision of our environment and society. Showcasing the work of professionals and talented amateurs, NZ–Life brings the audience face-to-face with moments of spectacular beauty, joy and devastation.
