Demonstration, storytelling and workshops of Te Whai wawewawe a Maui (Maori String Figures) combine in this community event where everyone is welcome.

There will be a morning session for the Brockville Primary School to teach tamariki and pakeke how to do Whai, and session two (5-7pm) is open to the community.

Each session will have two parts: the first part will be a demonstration of Te Whai and an explanation of the figures and how to create them. The second part will be a workshop where 4 demonstrators will teach groups how to create the strings figures, in particular Mapuhahana, Matariki, Maraurumawera. Demonstrations will include relevant karakia and waiata associated with Whai.
