ETA at Kendal School is about 1:15pm.

Route: Cross Hagley Park, along Kilmarnock St then join the cycle path at the railway crossing and head north. Go left onto Wairakei Road and travel all the way to Kendal Ave. Left onto Kendal Ave and arrive at the school after a short distance. See http://g.co/maps/ufqs9 for route map.

Programme: Activities and displays from 1:00pm, the "official" ceremony at 2:15pm with it being all over by 3:00pm.

Gerry Brownlee (Minister of Transport, Minister of CERA) and local MP; Anton Cooper (and possibly Prime Minister John Key) will perform the opening ceremony. Everyone welcome to attend - bring your bike and ride the track. Bring your children and grand children!

If you have a special or novelty bike it would be really great to bring that too. But if you don't have one, Pedalmania (http://pedalmania.co.nz) will be there for people to have a go on their unusual bikes.

Anyone who rides their bike are welcome to join us on the ride across town. Let's have a good, fun turn-out to show our support for such a wonderful initiative.

Kendal School Cycle Track is a mountain bike style track, designed by the same engineer who designed the extension at McLeans Island. It is about 600 metres long and has various "challenges" built around it for children to try out. It is aimed at 4 - 9 year olds to help them build up bike handling skills in preparation for learning to ride safely on the road. It is a community facility so after school hours everyone is welcome to come and ride it.
