This one-off, ground-breaking performance fuses the power of full orchestral sound, the message of local lyrics, and the groove and improvisational talent of young Auckland and pro hip hop artists.
After four years of “Remix” courses at OMAC (the Otara Music and Arts Centre) where APO musicians and professional hip hop artists came together to work with young urban musicians, the APO presents a full-scale orchestral concert of new music developed from these sessions.
DJCXL (who’ll be DJing throughout), Frisko (aka Alphrisk), Tyree and Ermehn will all be performing along with longstanding members of the Remix crew JEM and Anonymouz. Graffiti crew FDKNS will also be involved, drawing in real time on tablet computers, and the results will be projected on screens as they work.
For the first time in the four years of the Remix project the full Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra will be involved in the performance. Five APO musicians will also play as featured orchestral artists: Miranda Adams (violin), Eric Renick (percussion), Brent Grapes (trumpet), Ingrid Hagan (bassoon) and Bella Leslie (double bass).
