Auckland Conversations are a series of international speaker events on the issues facing Auckland becoming the world’s most liveable city proudly brought to you by Auckland Council.

Sara Parkin OBE - Forum for the Future UK.
Leadership for Sustainability in a Perverse World.
An economy low in carbon and high in life satisfaction will require exceptional leaders.

Over the last 40 years unsustainable trends - environmental, social and economic - have worsened. Why is this so and what has to happen to shift the momentum?

Sara will discuss how change to a more sustainable - and therefore resilient - way of life can be accelerated through innovative concepts and tools along with ideas for personal and organisational capacity building.

The ideas are based on the experience of Sara Parkin and Forum for the Future, and presented in a topical, lively and challenging way. In 2001 Sara Parkin was awarded an Order of the British Empire for her services to education and sustainability and has been brought to New Zealand by the Sustainability Society in partnership with Morphum Environmental Ltd.

Sara Parkin is a Founding Director of Forum for the Future UK and sits on the board of the European Traning Foundation. Recently she has completed terms on the boards of the Natural Environment Research Council, the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, New Economics Foundation and Friends of the Earth.

Sara has campaigned for the environment and sustainable development for over 40 years and has written several books, the latest being The Positive Deviant: Leadership for Sustainability in a Perverse World.
