Sunday 22 April, 2pm: Take a bus tour of Atatürk Memorial, National War Memorial and the WW1 Memorial in Mitchell Street with eminent historian Jock Phillips, and discover some examples of the ‘practical’ or community use of war memorials. Light refreshments provided. Booking essential T: 472 8904 (Cost: $25. Approx 90 minutes).

Wednesday 25 April, 1pm and 3pm: Join Marion Mackay as she shares First World War stories of family members through their letters, newspaper records and other personal items. Bring in your own objects and share your family war stories.

Thursday 26 April, 6pm: Hell Here Now. The First World War saw death on an unimaginable scale. In this talk, illustrated with his paintings, Bob Kerr looks at three responses by three very different New Zealanders. Alfred Cameron, whose main worry was that the war would all be over before he got to Gallipoli, Archibald Baxter who refused to be conscripted into the army, and Police Commissioner Cullen whose attack on Rua Kenna’s community at Maungapohatu in 1916 had tragic results.
