The Parihaka Woman is Witi Ihimaera’s first publication since his controversial The Trowenna Sea (2009).

This new book is an eclectic combination of fiction and history with echoes of traditional waiata, Dumas, Shakespeare and Beethoven’s opera Fidelio.

Central character Erenora is our guide through the tumultuous times of the Taranaki Land Wars, introducing us to Te Whiti, Tohu and Bryce the murderer, among many other colourful characters, real and fictional.

Ihimaera talks to friend and colleague Dame Fiona Kidman, who wrote the introduction to the recent 40th anniversary edition of Ihimaera’s very first book, Pounamu, Pounamu.
