'Motion is a beautiful lyricist unpretentiously and precisely describing those things worth having even as he casts unsettling shadows across them’ - Robert Potts, The Guardian

Spend an evening with UK poet laureate and novelist Sir Andrew Motion as he shares his work and explains the digital poetry archive and its significance for future generations. Sir Andrew is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was the UK Poet Laureate from 1999 until 2009 when he was knighted for his services to literature.

He co-founded the poetry archive with the aim of making poetry more accessible, relevant and enjoyable to a wide audience. Today the archive continues to grow with more poets contributing their voices and is increasingly being used as an education resource.

“Poetry was an oral art form before it became textual. Hearing a poet reading his or her work remains uniquely illuminating. It helps us to understand the work as well as helping us to enjoy it. What would we not give to be able to hear Keats and Byron reading their work?”

Join us at this event for your chance to hear from one of the world’s foremost poets and to experience Sir Andrew’s incredible, vivid poetry read out loud. Sir Andrew will also be available for book signings at the conclusion of his talk.
