On Friday 30th of November, on the eve of World AIDS Day (1st December), Positive Women Inc. will be launching a video called “Altered Lives”. This free movie night is being held to highlight the complexity of living with HIV from a women’s perspective in commemoration of World AIDS Day.

The Digital Story project was a combined initiative between Positive Women Inc. and students from the Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. It was an empowering experience for the women involved as well as a tremendous learning experience for the students.

The aim of the evening is to draw attention to the HIV response with a particular focus on women and families. Women make up more than half the population of people living with HIV globally and are extremely vulnerable to HIV infection.

Stigma and discrimination, fear and isolation are aspects of life that women living with HIV are well accustomed to. We hope by sharing these vivid and powerful stories we will help to break down some of the barriers and stereotypical misconceptions about women living with HIV.

HIV is at a turning point, the determination by UNAIDS to reach their target of “Getting to Zero” by 2015 is an achievable target which is why it is important for a focus on HIV to remain rather than to ease off.
