On 11/11/11, photographers in six cities - London, Dubai, Shanghai, Auckland, San Francisco and Sao Paulo - took part in an international photography project called 1 Day 6 Cities, organised by Daniel Alexander and Patrick Dalton. Photographers in each of these cities took a shot every 30 seconds for 24 hours, producing 17,280 photographs that document this single day simultaneously in cities that span the world.
An international network of photographers including professionals, amateurs and university students was formed to complete this task. The work is now being exhibited in all of the cities as a series of time-lapse films accompanied by a selection of the stills. Shown together it is possible to see the daily life of people in their cities and the passage of light around the globe.
This is a project that explores the power of the internet to form an international collaboration amongst photographers to create something that no single person could achieve.
