The Nukes

Two of the country’s top ukulele groups battle it out in Rotorua to establish dominance, all in the name of fun, as part of the celebrations around the largest rugby event to be held in New Zealand.

The ‘Muffins’ have been making music and people laugh up and down the country for over 25 years - so relative newbies the Nukes will have their work cut out trying to match experience with enthusiasm - what they both have in common though is a reverence for their quirky little instrument of choice, the ukulele, which has undergone an astonishing resurgence in popularity in recent times.

The cabaret-styled concert will have appeal to those who love the uke and for those who just want to have a great night out and be entertained. Both groups perform regularly up and down the country and have built strong repuations for crafty musicianship, clever humour and good old-fashioned showmanship.

The Nukes are fresh from a triumphant spot at the Taranaki Arts festival where they performed to a sell-out crowd, are really looking forward to the event. “We’ll be looking to get the crowd behind us as we know it’ll be a tough match up” says spokesman Dave Parker.

This will be a superb concert set in the historic and beautifully renovated Blue Baths right in the heart of Rotorua city.
