Viva la Manawatu welcomes to Square Edge the Latin American Society “LASO” (Massey University) dance troupe. And Palmerston North's “Fiesta Flamenco”.

This fantastic show captures the richness, colours and vibrancy of Latin American countries and Spain. The “LASO” troupe will perform a variety of dances representing either a country, or a specific region of the Latin American subcontinent.

The “dance journey” is divided into two sessions. In the first part, the folkloric aspects of the dance are highlighted, you will have the opportunity to see traditional pieces from Venezuela (Joropo), Colombia (Cumbia y Mapale), Chile (Cueca), Bolivia (Saya) and Peru (Marinera). Before proceeding to the second part of the Latin American “dance journey” we will be joined by “Fiesta Flamenco” who will perform a traditional Spanish Flamenco dance, a spectacular performance. Our second session then features the best of Latin American popular tropical dances (cha cha, merengue, salsa, bolero y mambo) typically done at carnival (party) time.
