How we can assist refugees’ and migrants’ reading ability - Dorothy Thwaite

A talk for Adult Learners Week.

Each year, a fraction of the many refugees worldwide come to New Zealand. Here they work to start afresh – with a different environment, culture, lifestyle, employment, language. In addition to all this, some adults are coming to grips with literacy for the first time: they have never had the chance to read and write in their own language. In this session we will discuss some of the enormous challenges, the courage it takes to deal with them, and ways that we can help.
