Classic vocal jazz with passion and commitment.

A singer of intense passion and commitment, Susan Gai Dowling has been a stable on the Sydney scene for decades and once you hear her its no surprise why. With a sweet clarity often lost on many of today’s singers, Susan brings warmth to the stage like no other. With appearances at all of Sydney’s major venues from small intimate bars to major festivals, Susan is regarded as a true exponent of jazz singing and regularly works with Carl Dewhurt and Bernie McGann

For CJC, she'll be singing a set of classic standards in her inimitable way, including some tunes of Thelonius Monk.

"...made cosy music, overflowing with humanity and then spiked with surprises and moments of sadness. Her voice carried a velvet lushness in its mid-range, and a warm, unassuming, non-predatory sensuality." - SMH

"When she unleashes her full voice it stopped you in your tracks, not because of the power but because of the emotional weight" - John Shand Sydney Morning Herald.

Featured act 8pm -10pm followed by jazz jam session 10pm - 12am
