"Modern originals inspired by past and modern masters"

Steve Barry crossed the ditch from Auckland in early 2009 and has quickly become one of Sydney’s most sought-after pianists, having worked with many prominent Australasian and international artists including John Hollenbeck (USA), Theo Bleckmann (USA), George Coleman Jr. (USA), Chris McNulty (USA) and the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra.

For this gig he brings out his trio with long-time associates Alex Boneham on bass and Tim Firth on drums. Inspired by both past and modern and heavyweights of the New York and Australian (and NZ!) jazz scenes, Steve’s music focuses on lyrical melodies, deep grooves and group interaction, and provides a vehicle for spontaneous creativity.

"He was equally convincing building irresistible momentum into convoluted rhythms, or shaping the wistful melody of Ambulation with the softness of a watercolourist." - John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald (August 2011)

Featured act 8pm -10pm followed by jazz jam session 10pm - 12am
