The Affect Research Centre at Massey University's College of Creative Arts and The Embassy of Japan are hosting an internationally touring exhibition Japanese Design Today 100, in the Tea Garden, Level C, Museum Building, Massey University, Welllington.

This exhibition of over 75 objects showcases the finest Japanese design of household products from the 1950s to the present-day. These selected modern designs provide a glimpse into the hopes and dreams of the people who used the products, as well as the designers and corporations who created them. This exhibition illustrates the trends and features of Japanese design at specific time periods, allowing a unique perspective into today’s Japanese design culture.

The exhibition will be open to the public 6-26 October 2011 9 am – 5 pm weekdays and 10 am - 4 pm weekends.

There is also a series of public lectures associated with this exhibition, which focus on design innovation as well as transport and product design, with the intention of fostering greater awareness of Japanese and New Zealand design cultures.

Friday 7 October, 10A02, 6:30 pm: A conversation with internationally acclaimed Japanese designer Tomoko Azumi, known for her exhibition, furniture and product design.

Friday 21 October, 10A02, 6:00 pm: A presentation by Paolo Cuccagna, Honda Motor Co. Design Executive, Italy, known internationally for his concept, design development and styling of award winning motorcycle designs such as Honda CB1000R and the Honda 125-150.

Wednesday 26 October, 10A02, 6:00 pm: Architect Tom Daniell will speak about “House as Product” which incorporates his personal experience and observations as a New Zealander living, practicing, and teaching in Kyoto, Japan for over 10 years.
