Daughter of a West Australian luthier and singer songwriter, Lucy Wise spent her childhood singing with her family in the Wise Family Band and The Wise Girls, and from a young age has played at folk festivals in Australia and internationally. Accompanying herself on guitar, ukulele and Appalachian dulcimer, her original songs are all about people, and the small things that illuminate everyday life, drawing influence from Appalachian and Irish Folk music.

Her rich musical upbringing as part of the Wise Family Band led her to pursue interests in a variety of stringed instruments, and she has performed and taught workshops Australia wide in fiddle, guitar, ukulele and singing.

Lucy and ‘The B’Gollies’ formed organically through long summer afternoons jamming with new-acoustic instrumental trio The String Contingent (Chris Stone on violin, Graham McLeod on guitar and Holly Downes on double bass - www.thestringcontingent.com) and accordionist Mischa Herman (www.myspace.com/mischahermanmusic). The band comprises influences from their backgrounds in Celtic, American, European folk and classical music traditions. They launched their debut self-titled album during the 2011 Australian festival season to high acclaim, and were a favourite act at The National Folk Festival (ACT) and Fairbridge Festival of World and Folk Music (WA) in 2011. Using rich textures and enlivened arrangements, The B’Gollies breadth and depth to songs that are all about people, and the small things that illuminate everyday life.

Many people have asked: “What is a B’Golly?”

Our answer is that we don’t really know. As well as being one of our favourite expressions of surprise, delight or fear, “B’Golly” has also been tacked onto the names of all band members at various points, making: Lucy B’Golly, Chris B’Golly, Holly B’Golly, Mischa B’Golly, and Graham B’Golly.
