Ken Arkind

Two of America's finest performance poets are about to descend upon the Coolest Little Capital in the World and engulf us in a whirlwind of words and wonder!

This is poetry like you have never seen it before.

Ken Arkind is a US National Poetry Slam Champion and full time touring spoken word artist from Denver. He has performed extensively throughout the States and has featured in documentaries "Spit!", "Slamplanet" and shows on HBO, CBS and NBC. His work has been published in numerous literary anthologies and journals. Between touring and publishing his first book, "I know why Georgia Turner waited by the train tracks", Ken is Executive Director of an independent literary arts organisation dedicated to helping Colorado youth find their voices through the mediums of poetry and performance.

Carrie Rudzinksi is a founding member of Gringo Choir, a Boston-based spoken word ensemble. She published her first collection of poetry "A History of Silence" in 2010. She hails from Northern Illinois and spends her time doing the two things she loves the most: travelling the world and performing her poetry across the United States.

These are two seriously talented performers, not to be missed! With local performance poets Miach Timona Ferris and Ali Jacs

Doors at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. $5-10 sliding scale (Pay what you want)

Praise for Ken:

"I do not know another writer with more talent, guts and integrity. No one in the spoken word scene has more consistently rocked me back to the drawing board, if we could bottle the hallelujah on the inside of this guy's windpipe there'd be more believers in poetry than there are in Jesus, who coincidently was the last hairy guy to talk this good."
- Andrea Gibson, World Of Women's National Poetry Slam Champ, Author of "Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns"

"Arkind speaks from a place of honesty that most of us are afraid of, but still spend our lifetimes trying to reach; young people feel a sense of kinship with Ken because they smell and recognize this honesty as something they are desperately trying to awaken and hold onto in themselves."
- English/Creative Writing Teacher for Montrose High School Montrose, CO.

Praise for Carrie:

"Carrie Rudzinski's ethereal voice flows through heartbreaking metaphors of rejection and loss. She speaks with the smooth, sensual rhythm of a jazz singer."
- The Boston Globe

“Carrie Rudzinski... is mesmerizing, winding her way through the thickets of attraction and disappointment with a machete in one hand and a heart she peeled off her sleeve in the other."
- Tom Daley, poet-in-residence at the Boston Center for Adult Education
