When:

  • Sat 19 Nov ’11, 11:00am – 4:00pm

Where:

Oamaru Cycle Works, Cnr of Wansbeck and Tyne Sts, Oamaru

Restrictions:

All Ages

For the third year now, Raleigh Twenty/20 and Healing Cruiser/Lowline riders classes organised by the stylish Safari Bros of Oamaru. These are commuter fun bikes from the 1970s and 1980s that required 45% NZ labour input. Now undergoing a resurgence!

Held in conjunction with the Oamaru Victorian Precinct, events run by the Oamaru Ordinary Cycle Club. Register at the OOCC Clubrooms on the day.

Also veterans bike races, Penny Farthings (ordinary bicycles). Slow bike races and uphill grunter. Trolleys.

Open to all ages. Food, drinks and toilets adjacent trackside. Penguins have right of way. See the old bikes you had and your Granny had when you were younger.

$2,000 in prizemoney for the Raleigh and Healing joint races.
$700 for mens and womens first prizes.

2 laps around the Tyne/Harbour Street circuit. No major modifcations to your bike. Single, duo, and three speed allowed, but you hardly have time to change gear.

All 20" x 1 3/8" wheeled makes only. Try to wear 80s or appropriate gear for your bike. See Canon at 'Retro Funk' for all your 70s & 80s Healing and Raleigh Apparel.

Last year's men's R20 champion will be defending his title. Last year's NZ women's Champion Bianca Bogan will not be defending her title, so will the bustiered Mandy make mayhem again? This is a chance to have some fun and the racing starts after the Grand Parade. Last year's race had a big pile up, so should be more action this year. Riders coming from down South and the Northern parts of New Zealand.

There is an excellent bicycle museum and bicycle gift shop at the Oamaru Cycle Works clubrooms. Their stationary Penny Farthing/ordinary bicycle will be posited in the historic sector for you and your loved ones to have a portrait taken on. Imagine sending one of those to the relatives...if you survive the racing that is.
