Lines of Descent is an exhibition that explores creativity that is passed from generation to generation.

This will be an eclectic expression of Māori art forms encompassing stone and wood sculpture, a collection of Māori weaponry and musical instruments along with a selection of glass, prints, paintings and mixed-media creations.

On display will be a series of seven karetao (Maori puppets). This will be the first public showing of this collection of karetao. These karetao are the first of their kind, fusing the art of Maori puppetry and Maori musical instruments together as one, creating karetao pūoro.

Throughout the exhibition’s duration James will be conducting floor talks about the exhibit, taonga puoro (Maori musical instruments) presentations/performance and tamoko demonstrations.

4 November at 12.30pm: Artists talk Toanga Puoro and demonstration. Admission Free

11 November at 7.30pm: Artist James Webster’s premier performance with traditional Maori musical instruments and puppets, breathing life into a world of sound that was almost lost forever. Admission $10

By James Webster.
