Film maker Julie Hill presents the premiere screening of her documentary Baby, where are the fine things you promised me?

When the Wellington motorway was constructed local artist Stephen Bain was forced to leave his flat. Unable to afford to buy his own home and in protest at his forced eviction, Bain decided to build a house that was his to keep and could move with him wherever he wanted.

Bain built a miniature version of his former flat just big enough to fit one human, a miniature piano and a little stove to make cups of tea. Far from solving Bain’s problem of finding a home to live in the project has since travelled the world, with Bain sitting inside the cramped house for hours on end, swapping stories with strangers and discussing the project.

Shot over several months the film follows the project to Tasmania, Wanaka, Hobart and at a street art festival in Brittany, France, popping up in shopping malls, arcades and busy city streets.
