Mark Scott: Now with Beard!

Sorry this event has been and gone

  • Fri 27 Aug ’10, 8:00pm – 9:00pm

The Fringe Bar, 26 Allen Street, Wellington Show map

“NZ’s 4th Best Comedian” Mark Scott, the tongue in cheek presenter of the recent television Moro campaign will soon be bringing his stand up comedy show to Wellington’s own Fringe Bar.

Mark Scott: Now With Beard follows on from last year’s sellout comedy festival show “Romantic Comedy” where Mark Shared the stage with well known ex-Wellingtonian Jesse Mulligan. Since then, the eclectic Scott has performed improv with Wayne Brady (Whose Line is it Anyway), toured Brazil singing as Robin Gibb with The Australian Bee Gees Show and won Best Actor in NZ’s first Short and Sweet play competition.

Booked to play a four date Wellington tour last September, Mark was forced to cancel when his brother was diagnosed with cancer two days before flying out on a three week South American tour with the worlds most accomplished Bee Gees tribute band.

“I got the call at ten o’clock at night. David was given a maximum of six weeks to have the operation and needed time to consider his options. Meanwhile, Id never sung in front of a band before and didn’t know the words to any Bee Gees songs.

“The following morning I cancelled a solid month of bookings, downloaded some Bee Gees songs onto a walkman and jumped on a plane. I was crapping myself cos Id never stood in front of a crowd as a singer before. Two days later in Sao Paolo I walked out centre stage in front of 4000 people and sang “I Started a Joke”. The crowd went wild and I kept thinking – Remember the words! Remember the words!

“I got back in time to be with David through the operation process. The whole experience was an amazing window into his life. And showed me a little of what is possible when the call comes and you are the only one in a place to make it happen. Basically, it was the ultimate brother bonding experience”

A passionate stand up comic, Mark is a massive fan of the Wellington creative community, stating “Wellington audiences support the arts from the ground up. A risky or new type of act can never grow to commercial viability without that kind of support. In that respect, I think Wellington is really the only city in NZ that consistently delivers.”

This year has seen Mark hopping over to Sydney and Melbourne to take gigs, whilst performing in five different comedy festival shows and retaining his position as one of the prime time hosts at Classic Comedy and Bar in Auckland.

Mark will be playing a one-hour show at The Fringe Bar on Friday 27 August 8 pm.
