The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra celebrates its 4th birthday, and the 60th Anniversary of the release of Aotearoa's first official pop hit single, 'Blue Smoke', with a concert at the San Francisco Bathhouse on Sunday 20th December.

It's their first Wellington show since the Michael Fowler Centre madness (two sold out shows in one night!).

'Blue Smoke', Ruru Karaitiana's wartime song of longing, was written in 1940. When it was released in 1949, it became the first song written, recorded and pressed in New Zealand to make it to the top of the charts. It featured ukulele, lap steel guitar, and the haunting voice of Pixie Williams.

To commemorate this anniversary, the WIUO recorded their own version of 'Blue Smoke' for their Dreaming EP, and now, for Christmas, they are delighted to present the song on limited edition blue vinyl, with 'That's Amore' on the b-side, and delicious illustrations by Stephen Templer.

The record will be available exclusively at the San Francisco Bathhouse concert on Sunday 20th December.

It's an early show for the silly season - doors at 6pm, the WIUO on at 7.30pm.
Tickets are $25, available from www.undertheradar.co.nz or at the door.
