Linda Holloway’s upcoming exhibition Everything and No Thing is about “what connects us – our ideas and our relationships”. Holloway’s work is at once complex and simple. Working within a personal language of form, the artist will spend weeks on a single painting, applying layers of paint and transparencies to create a sense of deep space in which organic and abstract forms appear to float between the different levels, exposing different textures and aspects of process.

The works exhibit a sense of quiet stylistic coherence while remaining unique expressions of individual engagement. We obtain a sense of unique textual complexity and prolonged movement through time and space to arrive at the final image.

Holloway is a passionate artist whose practice as a full time painter spans fifteen years. Her process as an artist involves responding intuitively to both the flat surface and her selected materials, at the same time she exposes in paint the changing relationship between time, space and depth.

At a symbolic level, both the paintings and Holloway’s process work as indicators of the fact that in spite of the way human relationships overlap and disperse in all directions, and can never be finally or fully defined at any point in time, as people we still remain connected to our ego, and retain a sense of self and individuality.

Fundamentally it is the artist’s love of what she does that drives the creative process, continually experimenting, and engaging with the process of painting on a daily basis. There is a process of continual questioning embedded in my practice so that it speaks to both the history, and future of painting. There is a strong desire to escape from past categories in order to connect with the immediate presence of the work.
