Carnival De La Raza

Sorry this event has been and gone

  • Sat 6 Oct ’07

Studio, 340 Karangahape Rd, Newton

Celebrate all the things we love so much about Latin America, its music and dance.

Carnival de la Raza ignites on Sat 6 October at the Studio, K'Rd.

With the capacity to hold more than 1000 people, this will be a huge Latin party in the city.

DJ Salsizmo starts the evening with salsa, followed by Banda Sindicato (an eight-piece salsa band).

Live music is combined with performances by outstanding salsa and Latin dancers.

After midnight, Brazilian band Samba Maracana changes the tempo, introducing Afro-Peruvian, Morani Afoxe, and Capoeira Mandinga.

And if that's not enough, DJ Pablo will take us into the early hours with funky Latin music.

The Studio has large wooden floors on two levels which is perfect for salsa dancing.

Guest dancers also include Vivio and Greydis (The Cuban Groove), Andrew and Danika (Sensalsa), Danza Negra Peru and Morani Afoxe.

Carnival de la Raza celebrates the birth of the Latin identity - one with a heritage shaped by Spanish colonisation, the slave trade and the indigenous people. A culture that has given us salsa, samba, merengue, afro-dances and many other things we love so much about Latin America and its people.

The event coincides with 12th October National holiday In Latin America known as Dia de la Raza (sometimes called Columbus Day).

This is the party not to be missed!

Earlybird Tickets available from Real Groove, Queen St, Auckland (BF may apply).
